my hand dyed fabrics
I have been dyed fabrics for many years, exploring various techniques: natural dyed (using leaves, berries, fruit and so on) after a classes tooken by the indian artist Bharathan from the Gandhigram Trust) and chimical dyed as fiber reactive dyes (expecially Procion MX).
I love the manipulation of the fabric tying, sewing and folding material (to the tecnique called Tye and Dye, Shibori or Bandhana). I have developed a my own way by the experimentation and the exchanges with other artists.
But now I use direct dyes with cotton and basic dyes with silk. In my opinion, the color is softer than by fiber reactive dyes and easier than by natural dyes. They don’t make an impact on the environment and are almost no-tossic. The cromatic result is really interesting.
I dye every fabric by hand and frequently by two or more color bath. Every fabric is a one-of-the-kind fabric: never it is identical to other! Every imperfection guarantees the artisan work.
Every piece of fabric is dyed, put in the fixing bath, dryed, steam ironed than washed and ironed again.
